Hi, I’m Jean, the North Yorkshire rep
My interest in motorcycling began in the 1970’s when I used to watch The Halifax Dukes riding speedway. I loved the smell of the bikes, the noise and the excitement. I was hooked.
My first motorcycle was a Honda PC50. I was given it. To start it, you placed it on its centre-stand, hold the decompression switch in, pedalled (yes it had pedals) like mad and then let go of the switch. If you were lucky it would start, in a cloud of blue smoke. 45 mph was its top speed, downhill with the wind behind you. My love of motorcycling began there.
Since then, I’ve had a few bikes and I now ride a Kawasaki Versys KLE650. When I had my first bike taking your bike test didn’t matter so I rode on L plates for years.
I took a break from motorcycling when I had my three children. It was only 4 years ago, after a gap of 23 years that I was encouraged to re-engage and take my test. I’m glad I did and I now have an insatiable appetite to become more active in the motorcycling world.
